2011 is an important year for Eye Industry of He Eye Care System and also the fifteenth year with trials and hardships. He Eye Care System has been still devoting to the development of international and domestic PoB assistance action. "First Sight, Africa Action" in Uganda and “Health and Bright-Combined Action” successfully carried out free cataract surgeries for many patients in Uganda, Africa and Jinzhou of Hubei Province. The model of integration of industry, education and research is further improved and supported by government. Mr. Wang Min, the Party Secretary of Liaoning Province, visited eye industry base-He’s University. In 2011, He’s University was officially renamed and became a secondary university in China, which meant we have made a great progress in creating Chinese eye care system. Liaoning VISION 2020 Workshop held in Shenyang is consistent with the goal of “Right to Sight” that He Eye Care System has been insisting on. International and domestic communication, propaganda and training gained a good result.Looking back the past, the glory and achievements have become today’s footstone. On June 28th, 2011, Liaoning VISION 2020 Workshop was held in Shenyang, hosted by VISION 2020 Liaoning Provincial Office, sponsored by The Fred Hollows Foundation and organized by Shenyang He Eye Hospital. The delegates from medical administration departments of health bureaus in Liaoning Province attended this workshop. This workshop intended to raise the awareness of VISION 2020 of PoB staff in the government, propose suggestions on Liaoning Prevention of Blindness Plan (2011-2015) and achieve the goals of VISION 2020. At the workshop, Mr. Jiang Jian, the officer of Ministry of Health, and Ms. Wang Mei, deputy director-general of Liaoning Health Department gave an address separately. Ms. Wang Tianhua, secretary-general of Liaoning Provincial VISION 2020 Office and vice-president of He Eye CareSystem reported on the work of VISION 2020 office. Mr. Tan Leshan, chief representative of The Fred Hollows Foundation in China, gave an speech called “Introduction of International PoB Organizations, Economic Benefits of PoB and our Responsibilities”. Deputy director of Xiuyan Health Bureau, Huludao Health Bureau and Health Bureau of Yuhong district also reported their own PoB experiences in their areas. All delegates discussed the topics of the workshop and shared their experiences and problems. This workshop achieved complete success.
On June 12th, 2011, confirmed by the officer from World Record Association, Shenyang He Eye Hospital challenged andcreated the world record that a thousand people did eye exercise together at 10:10am. June is the eye care month of He Eye Hospital and 2011 is the 15th year of He Eye Hospital. He Eye Hospitals have treated more than 2 million patients in Liaoning Province these 15 years. Shenyang He Eye Hospital advocated that more people could take part in the team of caring about eye health. A thousand people doing eye exercise together was just part of that day. He Eye Hospital also provided lecture on eye care to make more people know about eye knowledge. Actually, eye knowledge is the best eye medicine. About 400 people received eye examination.
On June 10th, 2011, the opening ceremony of He University that is the closing ceremony of the 4th Students’ Art Festival was held ceremoniously at Lake Square of the university. Nearly 1,000 representatives gathered joyfully and witnessed this great moments in the history. At present, He University is a secondary medical university in China. He staff have been working hard and gained today’s great achievements. He University once won the title of “National Advanced Independent School”, “Excellent Private College of Higher Education in China”, “Advanced College for Graduates’ Employment and Carve-out in Shenyang” and etc. He Xiaochun, the director of education inspection department in Liaoning government, presented the document approved by Ministry of Education. Dr. He Wei and leaders launched the opening ceremony together. The student representative, Song Qiaoling, teacher representative, Wu Yuping and parent representative, Wang Ping who is the famous performing artist gave a speech separately and expressed their sincere wishes to He University.
In June, 2011, Shenyang He Eye Hospital took part in “Health and Bright” Combined Action, which was launched by All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and cooperated provincial Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese. This is a national public welfare activity and nine provinces took part in. As the first science and education demonstration base, He Eye Hospital sent a professional medical team and completed 200 cataract surgeries successfully. In addition, He Eye Hospital gave some medical consumables to Jingzhou Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and they satisfied withour working attitude and surgical quality. They expressed their sincere gratitude to He Eye Hospital for the assistance in Jingzhou.
Du Liling, president of Huludao He Eye Hospital and Chen Liangde are visiting patients. In June，2011，Huludao He Eye Hospital cooperated with Huludao Federation of Trade Union to develop cataract treatment project for the staff in the union. This is the first cataract project for Huludao He Eye Hospital with the union. Chen Deliang, president of Huludao Federation of Trade Union visited Huludao He Eye Hospital and expressed sincere solicitude to the patients and their family members. Through this project, nearly a hundred staff received surgeries and achieved the desired results. He Eye Hospital will continue to serve for more labor patients.
Members of Liaoning Provincial Volunteer Club of Body Donation are in the front of Dalian He Eye Hospital The Eye Care Day of 2011 is significant to He Eye Hospital. He Eye Hospital and Liaoning Provincial Volunteer Club of Body Donation went to Street Garden of Lianshan District Government of Huludao and Dalian He Eye Hospital to carry out propaganda. The club members are made up of retired teachers and cadres from Shenyang. They distributed leaflets to the residents in Huludao and Dalian and publicize how to prevent and treat eye diseases. After their explanations, the residents had a deeper understanding of cornea donation and most people had the intention of donating corneas. This propaganda gained a good result. The club members expressed their willings to continue to take part inPoB activitiesin the future.Mr. Yang Dongwen, director of Liaoning Provincial Volunteer Club of Body Donation were on the spot of propaganda
From June 3rd to June 4th, 2011, CBM Low Vision Workshop was held successfully in Shenyang He Eye Hospital. Dr. Karin, low vision advisor of CBM, Mr. Tang Yi and Ms. Xie Yanyun, project officers of CBM Yunnan Office and the low vision project managers from Shenyang, Dalian, Huludao He Eye Hospitals and Zhongshan clinic attended the workshop. The objective of this workshop is to form a comprehensive service model in low vision. At the workshop, low vision project managers from Shenyang, Dalian, Huludao He Eye Hospitals and Zhongshan clinic made the report of their low vision work separately. With the help of Dr. Karin, they discussed next three-year-plan of low vision planning and goals to achieve.
From April 15th to April 17th, 2011, two ORBIS international consultancy experts from Aravind Eye Hospital visited Dalian He Eye Hospital to develop a three-day training on ophthalmic consultation techniques. 20 participants from Shenyang, Dalian and Huludao He Eye Hospitals took part in the training. The main contents of the training are consultation techniques in the ward, outpatient and community. Through the training，the trainees understood that the consultation is very important in the eye care service. It plays a role of catalytic agent in the eye diseases treatment and helped reduce even eliminate avoidable blindness. Consultation can not only raise patients’ awareness of common eye care knowledge, but also increase patients’ satisfactory. Through the evaluation and feedback, the trainees learned a lot about consultation techniques and could apply what they have learned in their daily work.
On March 16th, 2011, the medical team of Shenyang He Eye Hospital went to Uganda, which was the start of “First Sight, Africa Action”.“First Sight, Africa Action” was launched by China Disabled Persons Federation, Ministry of Health, Lions Club International. China has sent 5 medical teams to Kenya, Uganda and other countries and carried out cataract surgeries for patients with local doctors and nurses. This medical team was made up of medical staff from Shenyang He Eye Hospital. From March 22nd to March 23rd, 2011, the medical team of Shenyang He Eye went to Masaka of Uganda and carried out surgeries for 40 local patients with cataract, including two patients with AIDS. The surgeries were successful. This means Shenyang the medical team of Shenyang He Eye Hospital completed the task of “Sight First, Africa Action ” successfully. Dr. He Wei said that all the staff in He Eye Hospital attached great importance to the action and devoted themselves to taking advanced ophthalmic technology to Africa to improve the overall diagnosis standard of African doctors, make more patients restore their sight and take the humanitarian brilliance to the African people.
March 6th, 2011 is the fourth World Glaucoma Day. Glaucoma Club of Dalian He Eye Hospital was officially launched and club activities were also developed. On that day, Dalian He Eye Hospital offered free eye examinations for these club members. Dr. Lu Yan, the glaucoma expert explained the questions of glaucoma patients and gave them some advice. Detailed archives of patients were set up and club members were classified, which laid a good foundation for club member services.Glaucoma prevention and treatment has become an important public health subject. Improvement of diagnosis and treatment is the key to reduce the blindness led by glaucoma. Glaucoma club of Dalian He Eye Hospital will often offer free eye examinations for the club members and make doctors to know glaucoma patients’ conditions timely, which is convenient for patients’ follow-ups.
From March 3rd to March 14th, 2011, 11th CPPCC was held in Beijing and Dr. He Wei from He Eye Hospital attended the conference. During the conference, Dr. He Wei submitted many proposals, including: 1. Proposal on the enhancement of vaccine management; 2. improve the treatment of village doctors and their practice environment; 3. further improve the new-type rural cooperative medical system; 4. proposal on the perfect environment construction of the private school of higher education; 5. proposal on development of private education in China - - - to further enhance the decision-making power in running private school of higher education; 6. proposal on the safety of young people in China--to further strengthen the survival education of primary and secondary students; 7. proposal on the agreement of Chinese study textbook in primary and secondary schools; 8. proposal on green RMB; 9. proposal on the integration of property ownership certificate and land certificate; 10. proposal on establishment of apartments for empty nesters. Great importance was attached to these proposals by relative departments and leaders and also reported by many news medias. Dr. He Wei said that he would continue caring about people’s livelihood after he went back and provide good service for people.
